It’s been a roller-coaster ride this week for Paula Deen, who was recently accused of being racist, and was quickly cut from Food Network. Yesterday, Deen appeared on The Today Show, where she seemed to give a very heartfelt interview, but that did not stop several companies from dropping her. The latest company to drop Deen is Walmart, but on the plus side, fan support continues to grow, with other companies showing interest in Deen!
Paula Deen has lost another deal following the allegations that she is racist. Retail giant, Walmart released the following statement recently: “We are ending our relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises and we will not place new orders beyond those already committed.” Walmart joins the growing list of companies that have dropped Deen, which also includes: Food Network, Caesar’s, and Smithfield.
However, despite the drama, fans are continuing to show their support of Deen, flocking her restaurant and flooding Food Network with hate messages. Meanwhile, the Facebook page created to show support for Paula Deen is nearing 500K likes, while the petition to keep her on Food Network is not growing much at all, likely because folks are still angry at Food Network.
However, the Food Channel, not associated with Food Network in any way, has expressed interest in bringing Deen to their channel. On their Facebook page, they posted: “It was suggested that we change our cover photo to reflect our desire to talk with Ms. Deen about coming to The Food Channel. We’d love to have Ms. Deen help grow the Food Channel and bring you more recipes and great food.” Hmm, looks like Paula could have a new home very soon!
