Paula Deen Cookbook Sales Skyrocket Despite Controversy

July 05, 2013 05:19 AM by Lisa Princ

Despite the controversy surrounding former Food Network star Paula Deen, the chef’s fans seem to want more and more of her! While one publisher dropped her upcoming cookbook recently, another has reportedly snagged her and from the looks of things, it was probably a great move as her cookbook sales keeping going up!

While Ballatine Books may have dropped Paula Deen’s new cookbook after the racism scandal, one company that has no plans of dropping Deen is Hoffman Media, the company that publishes her magazine.

Despite the controversy, Hoffman Media is still standing by Deen, and rumor has it that they may be publishing her new cookbook as well. In a statement recently, the company said: “In the eight years that we have collaborated with Ms. Deen, we have witnessed her consistent generosity toward numerous charities, from hunger relief and battered women to a Savannah-based orphanage, to name a few.”

Meanwhile, the sales of Deen’s other cookbooks have skyrocketed since the controversy began. Paula Deen’s Southern Cooking Bible, her most recent book, released in 2011, sold over 2,000 copies in June, right around the time the controversy began. According to Amazon, they are having a hard time keeping up with the orders, and even have a wait time of up to 3 weeks for the Paula Deen books that they do carry.

Sounds to us like Deen is going to do just fine without Food Network!

What do you think of Paula Deen? What are your thoughts on the racism controversy? Have these companies taken things too far? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it. Sound off in the comments section below!

Being African American I am not offended by a statement made over thirty years ago. I do believe the controversy is overblown. If statements were more recent and/or often repeated in the past I would be more alarm.

This whole thing really sucks . I’am ordering your cookbooks and already have the cookware. And sorry but there are a few stores I won’t be shopping at anymore. They totally jumped the gun and they will be the ones that will lose out.
Good luck to Paula and she’ll do just fine.

I strongly disagree with Food Network, she asked to be forgiven for comments made 30 yrs ago….so they fired her??????? I loved her show. I can hardly wait until she is back on the air. Good luck Paula.
