The bad news keeps coming for Paula Deen, who has already suffered the loss of valuable endorsements for Target, Caesars Entertainment and several other prominent brands. Now, the former Food Network star has taken yet another hit with the departure of longtime agent Barry Weiner.
Paula Deen has had an awful couple of weeks, with allegations of racial slurs leading to the dissolution of one endorsement after the next. Unfortunately, obtaining future deals may be difficult, for not only does Paula have to deal with all the negative publicity…she has to do it without the help of Barry Weiner, the agent arguable responsible for her initial rise to fame.
No reason was given for Barry Weiner’s departure, but a recent statement from Paula’s spokesperson did confirm that the celebrity chef and the agent would indeed be going their separate ways: “Paula Deen has separated from her agent. She and her family thank him for the tireless effort and dedication over the many years. Paula wishes him well in all future endeavors.”
For many of those following the evolving Paula Deen catastrophe, this separation has automatically assumed to be the result of yet another person trying to avoid involvement in a PR catastrophe. But others allege that Paula may have actually been the one to dump Barry Weiner, not the other way around. Given her failure to hang on to important endorsements, the celebrity chef may have felt the need for an ally more capable of soothing corporate leaders as they desperately try to conceal all signs of past interaction with the fallen star.
Who do you think was behind this recent separation — Paula Deen or her agent? Sound off in the comments section below!
