Matthew Knowles — better known as the father of Beyonce and Solange — recently married Gena Charmaine Avery. But guess who didn’t attend the ceremony? That’s right, American Idol guest Beyonce and her sister Solange. Why did Matthew’s famous daughters skip out on the wedding?
Following an engagement that lasted a little under two years, Matthew Knowles and former model Gena Charmaine Avery were recently married in Houston. The ceremony is said to have been lovely, but more notable was the fact that Matthew’s famous daughters Beyonce and Solange Knowles were nowhere to be seen.
Matthew was not willing to go into specifics regarding the absence of his daughters, but he did tell reporters, “Unfortunately, Beyonce and Solange had previous engagements which made it impossible for them to attend.” Left unsaid, of course, was what, exactly, those previous engagements were and why they were more important than dad’s wedding. We assume that, in Solange’s case, the conflict involved a trip to Dakar, Senegal, where the singer enjoyed an exotic vacation with her son. Beyonce’s absence, on the other hand, may have more to do with her jam-packed schedule related to the Mrs. Carter tour.
Fans of Beyonce and Solange Knowles have speculated that their failure to attend their father’s wedding might be the result of a rift that has been growing ever since Matthew divorced longtime wife Trina Knowles in 2011. Shortly after the divorce, Beyonce decided to cut professional ties with her dad, who, until then, had claimed the important role of business manager.
Are you surprised that Beyonce and Solange missed their dad’s wedding? Do you buy the explanation surrounding ‘previous engagements?’ Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
