When LeAnn Rimes mentions bullying, you half expect her to go on a rampage about Brandi Glanville. But at a recent anti-bullying event, the singer and X Factor guest judge admitted that childhood bullies had left their mark.
LeAnn Rimes aims to stamp out bullying, for she knows first-hand just how harmful the practice can be. Although she was busy preparing for a performance at the Los Angeles Anti-Bullying Benefit Concert, LeAnn took out some time to share her experience with Entertainment Tonight. “I was bullied when I was a kid — when I was in junior high. A lot of girls can get real mean during the sixth grade year.”
The singer adds that most of this early bullying was a direct result of her developing musical career. As she began to perform throughout Texas, her principal would place newspaper clippings about her appearances on the school’s bulletin board. The other girls at the junior high must have felt pretty jealous, for, LeAnn admits, “I had my locker egged, I had a girl bring a knife to school the last day of sixth grade and tried to kill me! Awesome. So, I’d say I was bullied a little.”
If there’s one silver lining to this childhood bullying, it’s that it helped to prepare LeAnn for what would come in the future. The singer says that she still deals with bullies on occasion, although most of these problems now involve social media as opposed to egged houses. But that doesn’t make it hurt any less! As LeAnn explains, although she has a life as a performer and a more low-key life as your typical young woman, ”I’m a human being in both of them — and I think people forget that a lot of times.”
She did not explicitly mention Brandi Glanville, but we have the feeling the reality star is somehow implicated in this interview. What do you think? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
