Following a viral cardiomyopathy scare that had him in the hospital and in critical condition, Randy Travis appears to be in the beginning stages of recovery. What caused the American Idol guest star’s heart problems in the first place?
It’s been a rough week for Randy Travis, who, in the midst of a scheduled tour, found himself in the hospital, suffering from congestive heart failure. Since then, Randy has received specialized care and appears to be responding to preliminary treatments.
Physician Michael Mack of the Baylor Health Care System says that, although his condition was critical as of yesterday evening, Randy Travis’ “condition has stabilized and he has shown signs of improvement.” This is certainly good news for the country crooner, signalling that, given proper care, he might be on his feet and out of the hospital in no time.
So, what caused the emergency in the first place? According to Randy’s doctor, a viral respiratory disease is to blame. The doctor adds that the illness began three weeks ago and ultimately, resulted in congestive heart failure. A special device was implanted in Randy’s heart so as to assist with blood flow. As the singer’s rep explained, Randy “underwent the placement of an Impella peripheral left ventricular assist device for stabilization.” From there, he was transferred from the Baylor Medical Center in Mckinley, Texas to the more specialized Heart Hospital in Plano. Randy’s doctor said that this move was necessary in order for the celebrity to receive the expertise and standard of care he so desperately needed at the time.
We wish Randy Travis a speedy recovery!
