It’s been a busy week for the Los Angeles Lakers, as we recently learned that they are looking to get Lamar Odom back on their team. And today, we’ve the not surprising but official announcement that Dancing With The Stars alum Metta World Peace has been waived under the amnesty provision!
It’s official! Rumors have been buzzing all week long that the Lakers may waive Metta World Peace, also known as Ron Artest, under the amnesty provision and they announced that they have done just that!
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak made the following statement earlier: “It’s tough to say goodbye to a player such as Metta, who has been a significant part of our team the past four seasons. For anyone who’s had the opportunity to get to know him, it’s impossible not to love him. He has made many contributions to this organization, both in his community work as well as in our games; perhaps no more so than in his clutch play in Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals in helping to lead us over the Celtics in one of the greatest playoff wins in Lakers history. We thank Metta for all his contributions and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
Metta World Peace’s departure will reportedly save the Lakers an estimated $16 million in luxury tax. While they will still have to pay the remainder of his $7.7 million salary during the upcoming season, it won’t count against the team’s salary cap. That also makes for quite a deal for Metta, who could be earning from two teams! The question now is – which team will scoop him up?
Where would you like to see Metta World Peace end up? We know you have an opinion, and we want to hear from you! Comment below to share your thoughts with us.
