Move over Miley Cyrus — your impressive record for most hits in a 24-hour period has officially been beaten by none other than One Direction! That’s right, the former X Factor sensations just earned themselves an impressive record with the music video for new single Best Song Ever.
Best Song Ever by One Direction just might be the best song ever. Or at least, it certainly is according to the boy band’s rabid preteen fan base. These youngsters (and we’re assuming, quite a few guilty pleasure seeking adults) have once again helped the band in the creation of a mega hit, this time helping them achieve the record for most views in a 24-hour period. The previous Vevo music video to hold this honor was Miley Cyrus’ strange but oddly catchy We Can’t Stop, which garnered 10.75 million hits in the first day following its release. But One Direction blew past that figure, landing at an impressive 10.9 million views in just one day.
Making this achievement all the more special is the fact that it took place on the band’s third anniversary. As Niall Horan informed followers on Twitter, “Imagine, in one hour we will be 3 years together! Thank you so much guys! Best 3 years ever! You’ve done all this.” He later provided a further update for enthusiastic fans with a tweet that read, “Wow ! You guys broke the vevo 24 hour record! Wow! Thank you so much! Love you lots!”
