Once again, the identities of next season’s American Idol judges are anyone’s guess. Not even former mainstay Randy Jackson is available to lend some permanence to the judging panel. Although Nicki Minaj’s time on the reality series is over, the latest gossip suggests that the show may be once again courting a hip hop icon — this time, Will.i.am.
Half the fun of American Idol is speculating over who will be on the judging panel in any given season. Rumors point to the potential return of both Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez, a pair that many fans feel would prove beneficial for both contestants and audience members. But that still leaves one or two spots open, depending on how many judges are on the panel this year. And given the consistently tight-lipped nature of Idol’s producers, we still have no clue as to who will receive the honor of joining this exclusive group.
Sources tell the Hollywood Reporter that Will.i.am just might be a candidate for next season’s judging panel. The hip hop artist has some experience with reality competitions, having performed as a guest multiple times on American Idol and as a judge on the UK’s version of The Voice. But Will.i.am is allegedly thinking about returning for another season on The Voice, in which case he would be unavailable to join in on the fun at American Idol.
No word from Will.i.am as to whether he’s actually considering a position on the American Idol judging panel. But fans feel that his presence is exactly what the reality competition needs to amp up its ratings. Do you agree? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
