Apolo Ohno was a fan favorite two times on Dancing with the Stars, and while he may not be returning to the Winter Olympics as a skater, fans will still get to see him! That’s right, NBC has confirmed that Ohno has been signed on as an analyst for the 2014 Olympic Games.
Fans were very disappointed to learn that Apolo Ohno would not be competing at the 2014 Olympics, which Ohno announced back in April of this year. However, Ohno did mention that he wanted to try his hand at other opportunities, and it looks like he is getting his wish! NBC announced that Apolo Ohno, along with Al Michaels, will be joining their team to cover the 2014 Winter Olympics!
“We are excited to have two Olympic icons in their own right on board to play an integral role in our Sochi coverage. Al’s historical perspective and expertise will serve as a foundation for NBC Sports Group’s live daytime coverage, while Apolo will bring a fresh off-the-ice and pop culture perspective,” Jim Bell, executive producer of NBC Olympics said in a statement recently.
While it may not be the news that Ohno fans wanted to hear, it’s definitely going to be good to see Apolo at the Olympics, even if he is not competing! Ohno took home 3 medals back in 2010 during the Olympics, and over his career, has taken 8 in total. Apolo Ohno also walked away as the mirror ball champion on Dancing With The Stars in 2007, but failed to repeat that win on the All-Star season!
What do you think of Apolo Ohno joining as Analyst for the Winter Olympics? Are you disappointed that he won’t be competing anymore? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it. Sound off in the comments section below!
