It’s a big day for Robin Thicke, whose new album has officially been released on iTunes. As his new songs continue to receive both praise and criticism from listeners, the Duets judge explains that the lyrics to his hot single Blurred Lines are frequently “misconstrued.”
Blurred Lines is the catchy song of the summer, but unfortunately, the song’s reputation has been somewhat marred by critics who believe that its lyrics are inherently “rapey.” The track has still managed to remain on top of the charts, but that’s not stopping Robin Thicke from trying to clear of what feels is a huge misunderstanding about Blurred Lines’ lyrics.
In a recent interview with Today’s Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, Robin revealed that, while putting together Blurred Lines, he only had the best of intentions. “When we made the song we had nothing but the most respect for women…we had no idea it would stir this much controversy.” That being said, he feels that the controversy has, in some small way, contributed to the success of the track. After all, the best music out there has always stirred up a fuss from the naysayers.
Robin added that he is in no way the player that critics are making him out to be. “I’ve been with the same woman since I was a teenager. Sometimes the lyrics can get misconstrued when you’re just trying to put people on the dance floor and have a good time.”
Well, if the overarching goal is to get people to have a good time on the dance floor, Blurred Lines is a huge success! Do you have a problem with the song’s lyrics? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
