Val Chmerkovskiy Dishes On Dancing With The Stars

August 05, 2013 09:16 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

Dancing With The Stars fans are in luck, for Derek Hough is definitely returning for season 17…and he might be accompanied by bad boy Maks Chmerkovkiy. And Maks’ softer-hearted brother Val? He’s just getting started on his DWTS career!

As much as we missed Maks during season 16 of Dancing With The Stars, we were glad to see that ABC was at least kind enough to leave one Chmerkovskiy on the show. Val doesn’t have quite the same fan base as his brother, but he’s still a favorite among the show’s most dedicated viewers. And now that he’s been dancing alongside the likes of Derek Hough and Cheryl Burke for several season, Val is starting to feel very comfortable with dancing on live television.

That increased comfort is starting to show, both in Val’s demeanor and in his results. Not even cracking the top ten in early seasons, Val has now managed to take a third place during the all-star edition and runner-up for season 16. He tells iDesign, “It definitely helps that I’ve been getting more in tune with the format and more familiar with the show.” But modest as ever, Val offers most of the credit for his success to such celebrity partners as Aly Raisman and Kelly Monaco. “I’ve been getting great partners, so I can’t complain.”

No word yet from Val on whether rumors about his brother returning to Dancing With The Stars are true. Knowing how tight-lipped the DWTS producers tend to be, Val probably is as clueless about his brother’s casting status as the rest of us.

Why is Derek returning?!?! Thought season 15 was suppose to be his last! Then he came back for S16 and they gave him the trophy when Zendaya and Val would have clearly been the winners had they counted the online votes! Thats it Im so over this crap. Venting here!

I don’t believe Val ever danced with Ali Raisman…he danced with Zendaya and came in second season sixteen. As far as Derek…he is not the best dancer on the show. DWTS is going to loose some of their up-and-coming great dancers if they don’t quit favoring Derek so much!

I would love to know who chooses (and how) the stars are chosen for the professionals they end up dancing with for the season. Seems to my friend and me that Derek always get the better and younger contestants. Why doesn’t he ever get an older, less athletic person? Is it in his contract that he gets first choice, or what?

Max Cheryl Val make the show and the other dancers. Derek is clearly favored by the show sad as because of tha! I am not happy to see or watch Derek or his partners. I clearly believe that Val and Zendaya should have won! Enough not going to beleager this but as much as they favor Derek they are rude and disrespectful to others especially Max..time to change this

I am soooooo happy Derrick is coming back, him leaving would ruin the show for me!! He is a very gifted dancer. Val is a great dancer, not as conceited as Maks. Both want to act sexier and push the limits with their dance. Maks has an entertainment factor, with his temper. However, him saying he helped make that show was a bit much. Without the financial backers, fans and the whole team working together, there would be no show. I think the judges are a bit too tough on the celebratories, we all get upset with their scores. But, we are not the judges and as professionals they need not take it so seriously and back talk them. Toooo disrespectful! Tom and Brook are excellent host, we love all the professionals and appreciate their dedication. They have given and are still giving their life to dance!! Thanks to all of you!! Now that is what I say, but each and everyone is entitled to their own opinions!!

Derrick is the best male dancer and Cheryl is the best female dancer. America got it right Derrick and Kelly were the best!!! I hope Maks does dance this season.

Derek is a whimp. He needs to go already. Tired of him and his baby ways. Awww poor me……
Surprised by the contestants – hardly recognize any of them.

oh yeh – Zendaya got robbed last season. Kelly was good but Zendaya and Val were by far the best.

My whole family get together, have dinner and sit down to watching Dancing with the Stars, we have really MISSED Maksim, he adds a whole lot of fine dancing and sexy excitment (more that the judges do) it was great with he and Val dancing and competing, I’am sure if you ran a open letter, you will find Maksim is a big benefit to your great show, Sincerely, Katherine
