After ten years in the business, Robin Thicke has finally given listeners a huge hit with Blurred Lines. The
annoying catchy tune has been at the top of the charts for over 2 months now, and the Duets judge recently dished on why he thinks it’s such a massive hit!
Blurred Lines has remained at the the top of the charts for over 2 months now, and in its debut week, Robin Thicke’s album sold 177,000 copies, giving Thicke his very first number one album. But why is the song such a hit? Some people think it’s very catchy and fun, while others seem to despise it and the controversial lyrics.
While some feel that the controversy is the reason for the song’s massive success, Robin Thicke feels that there is another reason. Speaking to The Associated Press recently, Thicke explained: “The reason why ‘Blurred Lines’ is breaking records is because rarely do you have a song playing on all pop stations and all black stations, all of the urban stations. And because I have an urban fan base and urban audience, I wonder if it was a brand-new artist, would they play ‘Blurred Lines’ on black radio? I don’t think so.”
Thicke also dished that he feels that his new album is successful because he was able to freshen things up without changing who he is. “I did want to push the boundaries and work with some hit makers to see if they could help me and luckily it all worked out. But the good thing is I didn’t have to change who I am and what I like. And I almost did. I sang a couple songs I would not have been proud of if I released them,” he admitted.
And despite the massive controversy surrounding the video for Blurred Lines, Thicke’s intention was not to offend anyone, but to simply entertain and make people feel good. Luckily, most people are enjoying Blurred Lines!
Now, it is your turn to sound off! Do you love Blurred Lines? Or do you feel that the hype is undeserved? Will you be purchasing the album? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear from you. Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
