The guys of One Direction have enjoyed their fair share of accomplishments since their time on The X Factor (including the recent success of hit single Best Song Ever) but now, they are about to cap it all off by become the first ever billion dollar boy band!
Between hit songs and legions of screaming girls, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that One Direction is the ultimate boy band at the moment. But the group isn’t just any boy band — it’s an incredibly profitable group of musicians, even by Top 40 boy band standards. As Perez Hilton reports, economists have done a little number crunching and determined that the band will have generated over one billion in profits by the time they end their 2014 tour. Not bad…not bad at all.
These profits are not exclusively from tours, although the packed concerts certainly have helped to make the members of One Direction wealthy young men. But they are also helped along by the sales of records and merchandise, plus movie tickets for their exclusive concert flick. All in all, it’s quite the profitable venture Simon Cowell has managed to put together.
We’re sure the One Direction musicians are enjoying their new found wealth, but they make sure to let fans know that it’s all about the love of performing…and the fans! Harry Style recently offered his Twitter followers a huge thank you, explaining, “You are all incredible. You keep on surprising us.”
How about you? Are you surprised to hear that One Direction is poised to become the first billion dollar boy band? Do they deserve that level of success? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!
