She’s returned to filming Glee, but that doesn’t mean Lea Michele will ever forget her fallen boyfriend Cory Monteith. In her first onstage appearance since his death, Lea honored the Glee star and Glee Project mentor with a touching tribute at the Teen Choice Awards.
Until last night, Lea Michele hadn’t appeared on stage or television since Cory Monteith’s tragic death. Now, though, she’s ready to grieve in public — and that’s exactly what she did at last night’s Teen Choice Awards. Although the original intent of her appearance at the Teen Choice Awards was to graciously receive an honor bestowed by young Glee fans, it was only understandable that Lea wanted to talk about her late boyfriend. After being named the Choice Actress in a Television Comedy, Lea Michele thanked fans profusely before focusing on Cory, the person she felt really deserved a Choice Award. “As Lea explained, Cory “was very special to me and also to the world and we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent.”
Lea Michele recognizes that Cory Monteith’s death has been difficult not only on her and her fellow Glee cast members, but on the show’s dedicated fan base as well. She told audiences, “I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory, for all you out there that loved and admired Cory as much as I did. I promise that with your love, we’re going to get through this together.” And then, the actress continued on to say that, without the support of this amazing group of fans, she never could have made it through “these very past difficult few weeks.”
We wish Lea Michele all the best as she continues the difficult process of filming without Cory Monteith. Feel free to share your favorite memories of Cory and his Glee counterpart Finn Hudson in the comments section below!
