He’s already become a bit of a presence on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but that’s more than enough reality television for Kanye West. The rapper has reportedly turned down an offer to join the judging panel on American Idol.
If you were hoping to see Kanye West on the next season of American Idol, you’re out of luck — Kanye has absolutely no interest in following in the footsteps of Nicki Minaj. An insider has told Us Weekly that the rapper feels that such a move would ultimately damage his “street cred,” for he doesn’t “want to go that mainstream.” After all, he’s already damaged his image more than enough by dating and then having a child with the most significant reality star of our day — Kim Kardashian.
Kanye West is certainly not the only hip hop artist American Idol has courted for its judging panel. Producers have also been eyeing such influential figures as Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Will.i.am, Rodney Jerkins and record producer Dr. Luke. As of right now, it looks like Dr. Luke is the favorite, perhaps because his experience makes him an ideal replacement for Randy Jackson. And according to Us Weekly, the most likely setup for the next season of American Idol will include Dr. Luke alongside former judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez. Keith and JLo are both fan favorites and producers seem to think that, with Dr. Luke added to the mix, the camaraderie would be much improved over the disastrous last season.
