Randy Jackson To Replace Jimmy Iovine On American Idol

August 22, 2013 05:01 AM by Lisa Princ

American Idol is continuing to make key changes before the new season begins. After Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were fired from the show, and Randy Jackson stepped down from the panel, we were relieved to learn that Keith Urban would be returning next season. However, rumor has it that Randy Jackson will be back – to replace Jimmy Iovine as a mentor. Details inside!

Long time American Idol fans were saddened to learn that the only remaining original judge still standing, aka Randy Jackson, was leaving the judging panel, which Jackson announced on the season finale in May. However, it appears that Jackson is headed back to the singing competition, but for a mentor role! According to Deadline TV, Jimmy Iovine, who has been an in-house mentor for the past few seasons has been fired from the show. Whether you loved or hated Iovine, the firing is definitely not a shocker, as the series has been cleaning house since the finale, even replacing executive producers, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick.

Jimmy Iovine’s departure, however, may bring back Randy Jackson, as sources claim that Jackson will take over the mentor role. After Jackson announced his departure in May, a chairman for FOX spoke out about Randy, claiming that Jackson would: “Be back in some capacity, because, “He is a friend of show,” so a mentor role would guarantee that viewers would still see Jackson.

While we wait for the official confirmation on Jackson’s return, American Idol also still has vacant judges seat (or two) to fill. Jennifer Lopez is rumored to be returning with Keith Urban, but we’re still waiting on that announcement as well.

Would love to see Randy back in any composity, Randy is great for the morale an he tells it like it is. Hate Mariah was fired feel like that was due to the fact that nikki minja was to imature to be a judge and was jealous of Mariah talent. American Idol does need someoone that can show some compassion an Mariah was that person reconsider her.
