Miley Cyrus once again showed off her twerking skills at the MTV VMAs, and suffice to say, that was easily the least controversial portion of her performance. But perhaps more surprising than American Idol guest star’s wild display was the clear lack of enthusiasm from such onlookers as Rihanna and Harry Styles.
Criticism surrounding Miley Cyrus’ scandalous VMA performance has been rampant. Actress Yvette Nicole Brown later took to Twitter to plead, “Miley, step away from the foam finger and put your tongue away…PLEASE.” Jesse Tyler Ferguson is also not a fan, explaining that he now fully expects, “nightmares about Miley Cyrus playing a tiny harp where her ‘red light area’ is.”
It’s not just the Twitterverse that has taken issue with Miley’s skimpy wardrobe and hardcore twerking. MTV’s camera crew caught plenty of reactions from audience members who were far from impressed. For example, one shot included a clearly befuddled Rihanna, along with an equally confused group of One Direction band members.
Surprisingly, not everyone jumped on board the bash Miley Cyrus train. Bethenny Frankel defended the celeb, tweeting, that Miley “is 20 yrs old & getting bad direction. Granted she has to agree, but someone choreograped it & designed that bear.” Piers Morgan also added his two cents with the following Twitter post: “Don’t understand all the fuss about Miley Cyrus. Some of us have been twerking for years…”
