Before they were the beloved rednecks of reality television, the guys of Duck Dynasty were best known for the duck hunting merchandise they sold through popular outfitter Duck Commander. And instead of using their fame as an excuse to back off on the duck hunting, the Robertsons are going full steam ahead — and garnering record profits as a result!
Looking for a new way to market your business? How about landing your own reality show? The tactic certainly seems to have worked for the Robertson family. Ever since they rose to fame as the stars of Duck Dynasty, the Robertsons’ already popular Duck Commander brand is now experiencing a surge in sales. And this that’s saying something, as Duck Commander was already reasonably successful in the first place. As Willie Robertson explained to the New York Times, “I thought we were booming before…Booming is a relative term.”
Yes, booming may be a relative term, but we can safely say that, with alleged “figures of 2,200 percent growth” Duck Commander is most definitely booming at the moment. And that growth certainly is not limited to one specific region. Willie says, “You couldn’t chart it as far as where we have had business growth. It’s bursting at every level, every store.”
Although Duck Commander began as a prominent resource for dedicated duck hunters, it’s become more of a kitschy place for fans of Duck Dynasty, most of whom do not know the first thing about the sport. Apparently, the primary customer has transformed into the type of person who, instead of using the duck call on the hunt, ”[puts] it on their desk and [toots] on it.”
Have you invested in a duck call from Duck Commander? What do you think of the explosive growth of this family business? Sound off in the comments section below!
