Anyone and everyone is criticizing former American Idol guest Miley Cyrus in the aftermath of her VMA twerkathon. But not her daddy! We didn’t expect Billy Ray Cyrus to be so understanding…what gives?
We wish we could say Sunday night’s VMA performance was just a case of “she’s just being Miley.” But being Miley seems to have transitioned from tongue-tied teenager (as in her first big single) to suggestive twerker. And all that twerking has the Twitterverse up in arms, logging record responses related to the controversial celeb.
There were, however a few supportive tweets related to Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance. One of them came from a seemingly unlikely source: Billy Ray Cyrus. Shortly after Miley left the stage, Billy Ray tweeted, “Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love…less hate.”
Okay, okay, he didn’t explicitly refer to his daughter in the tweet, but based on the timing and the sheer amount of hate sent Miley’s way, the intentions of this tweet are pretty clear. And Billy Ray Cyrus isn’t the only one giving Miley a pass. A surprising number of celebs thought that the public should back off. For example, after he noticed all the social media backlash, Piers Morgan tweeted, ““Don’t understand all the fuss about Miley Cyrus. Some of us have been twerking for years…”
Do you agree with Billy Ray Cyrus? Does the public need to give Miley a break? Or was her performance disturbing enough to warrant all the criticism? We know you have an opinion and we’re eager to hear it! Sound off in the comments section below!
