As if we really needed more confirmation that Miley’s VMAs twerking was a ploy for attention, the singer and former American Idol guest’s manager just offered it in spades. Apparently, Miley Cyrus’ manager backs the celeb in her belief that the controversial performance was a huge success.
It might have sparked an enormous amount of controversy, but according to Miley’s manager Larry Rudolph, the raunchy VMAs rendition of We Can’t Stop (followed by an equally disturbing performance of Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines) could not have been any better. The manager says that Miley’s friends and family members (including mom Tish) were all cheering from the side of the stage, as were plenty of fans in the audience. “The fans got it. The rest eventually will.”
Miley also feels that her performance was a success, mainly because the world just can’t stop talking about it. A few days ago, she commented on Twitter, “Smilers! My VMA performance had 306.000 tweets per minute. That’s more than the blackout or Superbowl!”
Of course, The Guardian notes that, despite all these tweets, Miley only (yes, only) managed to add an additional 100,000 followers in the aftermath of the fiasco. That’s not the greatest conversion rate. And yes, she’s received plenty of attention regardless, but the celeb best remember that there’s a good kind of attention and then there’s the bad kind. You know, the kind that ultimately leads to the label of “washed up.” Just ask fellow former teen queen Lindsay Lohan.
