Miley Cyrus has received most of the negative attention for last week’s Video Music Awards fiasco, but as Cyndi Lauper points out, Robin Thicke played his part as well. Now, the Duets judge is attracting criticism for another VMA scandal…what did the Blurred Lines singer do this time?
Ever since he released the big summer hit of 2013, Robin Thicke has seen his fair share of controversy. The latest kerfuffle involves a post-VMAs photo in which the singer is posing with super fan Lana Scolaro. To the left of the two is a mirror, in which viewers can clearly see that Robin is grabbing Lana’s butt. Initially, fans claimed that the photo was an obvious fake, but Lana confirms that the picture is definitely real.
According to Lana, it was pretty obvious that Robin Thicke was getting a bit handsy. She later told E! Online, “I knew his hand was on my butt, but I didn’t know that there was a mirror.” And since she had no idea that the controversial butt-grab was even in the photo, Lana figured that posting it on Instagram wouldn’t be a big deal. “I didn’t even know that was the reflection until I uploaded it, and someone commented on it. I was just like, ‘Oh I’ll Instagram this photo with Robin Thicke, like everybody else.’”
The photo quickly achieved viral status after a concerned viewer shared the following tweet with Robin’s wife Paula Patton: “@PaulaPattonXO look at the reflection girl.”
Does this butt-grabbing picture in any way change your perception of Robin Thicke? Or, based on the lyrics of Blurred Lines and his performance at the Video Music Awards, should this be expected? Sound off in the comments section below!
