Thanks to Miley Cyrus’ cringe-worthy VMAs performance, twerking is now the talk of the town. But although he’s been known to engage in some pretty terrible twerking of his own, X Factor alum and One Direction band member Harry Styles says he definitely does not approve of the dance trend.
He may bit a bit of a ladies man, but that doesn’t mean that Harry Styles approves of all the latest dance crazes. He’s definitely not a fan of twerking, as he made clear in a recent interview with Moviefone. “‘I think it’s quite inappropriate. Especially for the age group that it’s aimed at. I think it’s, you know, promoting promiscuity.”
This viewpoint marks quite the reversal of Harry’s earlier support for Miley Cyrus in the wake of her VMA fiasco. At the time, the teenage heartthrob said, “[Miley's] quite shy and I think it’s time she came out of her shell. [It was] family friendly. You could watch it with your kids and your grandma.”
Of course, even if he hadn’t initially expressed support for Miley’s performance at the VMAs, Harry Styles’ twerking viewpoint would still be a bit hypocritical. After all, he did offer a brief twerking display just a few weeks earlier at the Teen Choice Awards! The singer ultimately did wind up seeing the error in his ways, later tweeting, “Note to self. Don’t ‘twerk.’” That being said, we still don’t think it’s Harry’s place to cast judgement on the dance choices of fellow celebs, particularly if he himself has managed to blow up Twitter with those very same moves.
Do you agree with Harry Styles? Does twerking promote promiscuity? Sound off in the comments section below!
