Few Dancing With The Stars contestants are able to come even close to approaching the level of fan frenzy season 17 cast member Bill Nye has already instigated. The famous scientist is quite confident in his ability to master ballroom dance — after all, science rules, even on the dance floor!
It’s tempting to think of Bill Nye the Science Guy as Dancing With The Stars’ new Steve Wozniak. You know, the bumbling nerd whose attempts at dancing are simultaneously adorable and cringe-worthy. But DWTS’ newest dork says that viewers should not be so quick to cast him off as the this season’s weakest link. He tells People he’s “in this to win this,” adding that, his entire life, he’s thrived on seemingly insurmountable challenges. “I mean, I went to a pretty tough engineering school and then I worked in children’s television with Sesame Street and Mister Rogers. I played in that league.”
And since he’s “played in that league,” Bill Nye believe he is capable of remaining in the competition until the better end. This is no joke — as Bill confesses, “I’m in this to do my very best. To get the mirror ball trophy.”
Bill’s partner, newbie DWTS pro Tyne Stecklein believes that the dorky dream team will have no trouble surprising naysayers. The dancer says that Bill is a “great student” and that his intellect is sure to prove an asset in his bid to capture the coveted mirror ball trophy. “He’s very smart, obviously, which helps. He picks things up really quickly and he gets it and he enjoys it. And he works really hard.”
