Between the illicit drug use, the DUI charges and all the other current drama in Lamar Odom’s life, many have taken it for granted that the athlete and Keeping Up With The Kardashians star’s career is over. But Lamar’s former coach Vinny Del Negro says that the potential for a comeback is still there.
Recently reports suggest that Lamar Odom has finally checked himself into a rehab facility. He couldn’t have made that decision at a better time, for, given his current issues with the law, (not to mention his crumbling relationship with Khloe Kardashian) the athlete has few alternative options. But assuming he’s actually able to get clean, is there any real chance that Lamar will be able to return to professional basketball?
According to Lamar’s former Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro, the answer is still a definite yes. Vinny feels that, despite all his struggles with drug use, Lamar retains the basic athletic ability that set him apart in the first place. The former coach told the Los Angeles Times, “Lamar can still play. It’s not the basketball skills that are the problem. Once he gets himself in shape and gets his mind wrapped around basketball, he can help somebody.”
That’s not to say that the athlete has an easy road ahead of him. His former coach acknowledges that Lamar will have a tough time of it as he strives to get back in the game, particularly given the low place from which he’s starting. “I understand he is going through a lot right now. It is never easy. He has always had some difficult obstacles and they weigh on him a lot. You feel bad, but you hope he is all right.”
