During last night’s NFL opener, Keith Urban enjoyed a lukewarm reception in Baltimore. Ryan Seacrest would have considered himself lucky to receive the same. Instead, the American Idol host was greeted by a decidedly hostile crowd.
Sports fans are sick and tired of seeing Ryan Seacrest on their favorite broadcasts. First, the American Idol host intruded on the 2012 Olympics, causing an uproar among critics. And last night, he showed up once again, this time for NBC’s broadcast of the NFL opener. Fans were definitely not happy, as is clearly evident based on their continued boos throughout Ryan’s appearance.
It probably didn’t help that Ryan was so intent on promoting his many other projects. After taking the field, he said, ““I only know of one other countdown that might be as big as this show,” referring, of course, to the classic New Year countdown show he recently took over. After another round of jeering from the crowd, Ryan continued, “America is ready for 17 weeks of excitement, followed by the drama of the playoffs, all culminating in New York at the Super Bowl! So come on Denver, let’s join these football greats — representing all 32 teams — and ring in the NFL season!”
A few fans provided the warm welcome for which Ryan Seacrest had been hoping, but many continued to boo in hopes of getting him off the field for good. But if Ryan noticed the displeasure of certain Broncos fans, he kept quiet about it. No post-opener tweets from the host just yet, but we do have to wonder if Ryan will acknowledge the fiasco the next time he logs into his Twitter account.
