Football has returned and with it, the weekly spectacular Waitin’ All Day For Sunday Night. But this time, it is not the lovely Faith Hill at the mic — instead, American Idol alum Carrie Underwood is taking over with a decidedly edgier rendition of the song. Suffice to say, fans were impressed by last night’s opener!
We already knew that Carrie Underwood was about to become a fixed part of our upcoming Sunday evenings in front of the television, but the star decided to drop further hints for her social media followers. Yesterday, she tweeted, “I’ve got this funny feeling that I’m going to be waiting all day for something…”
Just in case there was any confusion (although we thought that Carrie’s intentions were crystal clear), the singer explained herself later that day with a followup tweet that read, “Who’s ready for @SNFonNBC? Woo hoooo!!! I’m so excited!” Fans reacted with that same excitement, congratulating Carrie on her takeover of the Sunday Night Football theme.
Finally, after all the hype, we were able to witness Carrie’s performance…and let’s just say, the country crooner did not disappoint. The new version was a little more rocker-chic than the Faith Hill rendition we’d come to know and love, but hey, change is good! Carrie described the difference in the theme as one of renewed energy, explaining that, although she wanted to retain the basic feel of the tune, she also “definitely wanted to bring a fun edge to it.”
