Last year’s American Idol judging panel offered plenty of drama in the form of Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, but the resulting controversy definitely did not lead to improved ratings. Now, the show is reaching out to fans with a far more popular group of judges that includes Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. So far, the fans approve — and so does Idol alum Scotty McCreery!
When Scotty McCreery was on American Idol, he had the opportunity to perform for the likes of JLo, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. Two of those judges have been switched out, but Scotty definitely does not see this as a bad thing. Although he’s made no explicit complaints against the season ten judges, the country crooner acknowledges that change is inevitable on a show like Idol. That being said, he’s ecstatic to learn that Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban will be joined by Harry Connick Jr. for season thirteen.
Scotty recently told The Hollywood Reporter he’s been anxiously awaiting JLo’s return to the American Idol judging panel. But he also approves of season thirteen’s other two judges. “Keith is there as well, holding it down for country, so I like that. I haven’t met [Harry Connick Jr.], but I’ve watched Idol growing up, and he was a mentor to the contestants, and it was great. I definitely think it’s going to be a good season for Idol.”
This is the first season in which Idol has lacked a music industry insider, but Scotty insists that the panel remains in good hands. “They’re all big-time artists and big-time musicians, so they’ll have good advice whether they’re insiders or not.”
Do you agree with Scotty McCreery? Is the season thirteen American Idol judging panel destined for greatness? Sound off in the comments section below!
