Phil Robertson’s ideology has landed him in hot water on more than one occasion. But say what you want about the Duck Dynasty star — you have to admit he’s consistent in his beliefs. He proved this last weekend with yet another sermon expressing a very passionate set of Christian beliefs.
What better way to spend a Sunday than listening to a sermon from Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson? Clearly, members of White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in Louisiana approve of this idea, for they showed up en masse to hear their role model pontificate on Christianity in today’s society. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the entire Robertson clan has been a part of this congregation for years, but still, Phil’s presence can’t have done anything to hurt attendance numbers.
So, what gems did Phil offer in his latest sermon? Surprise, surprise: he thinks that Americans need to place a greater emphasis on faith in their day-to-day lives. The reality star advised, “The whole lot of you needs to repent. All the rest of America.” Pretty strong words, but Phil did acknowledge that he, too, must repent.
The need for repentance derives, in Phil’s opinion, from a desire to maintain the liberties Americans hold dear. The reality star questioned, “Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure? ‘Oh, we’ll always be here. We’ll always have our freedom. We’re America, the greatest country on Earth!’ Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis — a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?”
