Recently, American Idol announced that Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez would be joining Keith Urban on the judging panel for the new season, with Randy Jackson taking over the mentor role on the show. So, just what does the “Dawg” think about the new judges? Find out inside!
Randy Jackson is preparing to take on a new role on American Idol, instead of sitting on the judging panel, which he has done since the start of the show. But what does he think about Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. teaming up with Keith Urban on the panel? Jackson spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently, and told them: “I know them all very, very well. They’re all amazing people, great in their own right, very credible, really cool, funny.”
Jackson also says that viewers can expect lots of jokes from the trio, which should make for a fun season. Meanwhile, Jackson will be taking over the mentoring role, formerly held by Jimmy Iovine. Iovine did not seem to be a big hit with viewers, so it makes sense that the show would change things up. And who would be a better fit to mentor the aspiring singer than Randy Jackson, right? Randy is looking forward to returning to the show, and referred to his new gig as a promotion. “I’ve moved to the higher court now,” Jackson joked.
