Insiders Predict Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ To Hit #1

Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball could be the provocative pop star’s first #1 single ever! The former American Idol mentor has come close before, but insiders are predicting that her latest single will hit the top of the charts, based largely on the smash success of the accompanying video.

When the new Billboard Hot 100 chart comes out on Wednesday, insiders are predicting that Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball will have knocked Katy Perry’s Roar from the top spot.

The buzz surrounding her new single has been in large part due to her Terry Richardson-directed video, in which she licks a sledge hammer and straddles a wrecking ball while completely nude, except for a pair of Doc Martens. The video smashed a Vevo record, previously held by One Direction, as the most viewed video in a 24-hour period. Since it’s debut, the video has been seen by almost 85 million people, which Billboard magazine uses as one of the factors when putting together their list of the top singles in the country.

Miley Cyrus had gotten close to the #1 spot earlier this year with her summer hit, We Can’t Stop. While the song was mentioned in almost every list of “Songs of the Summer”, it never made it to the top spot, peaking at #2.

Miley has been making the rounds lately to promote the October release of her album, Bangerz, which she recently announced will feature guest stars like Britney Spears and Nelly.

But her video is not the pop stars only controversy lately. Critics largely panned her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards where she twerked her way all over the stage in barely any clothes while grinding against her — married — duet partner Robin Thicke.

But one of the queens of controversy, Lady Gaga, came to the former Hannah Montana star’s defense telling Bravo’s Andy Cohen, “I mean, I just think everybody needs to lighten up and leave her alone. Because it’s pop music. Everybody’s entitled to their own artistic expression, and if you have a problem with it, just change the channel.”
