Jack Osborne has more than stage-fright and grueling rehearsals to contend with as he competes on this season of Dancing With the Stars. In 2012, Jack was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. He is using the mega-hit reality show to bring awareness to the disease and so far his efforts have brought in a donation from at least one large company.
The day after Jack Osborne performed a well-received fox trot with his professional partner, Cheryl Burke, Teva Pharmaceuticals honored The Osborne’s star with a $100,000 donation to the National MS Society. “We are proud to make this donation to the National MS Society and recognize the great work they do for people who live with MS and RRMS, like Jack Osbourne. We wish Jack well as he competes on ‘Dancing with the Stars.” the company said in a statement.
People as young as Jack, who is 27, are rarely diagnosed with MS. And for right now, the incurable disease is not affecting Jack’s efforts during rehearsals or performances. At the cast reveal, he even said that, “Physically right now, I’m good. There’s not that many young people that have the disease that are in entertainment and do speak up about it.”
His partner, Dancing With the Stars veteran Cheryl Burke, has also said that she has yet to see any signs of Jack’s disease. But she is taking precautions. Urging him to be open and tell her if he needs to take a break.
There were no signs that Jack Osborne was having any side effects from MS or the recent heart-breaking news that his wife had recently miscarried their second child when he took to the ballroom floor during Monday’s season premiere. His performance earned him a respectable 23 points and brought tears to the eyes of his mother, Sharon, who was sitting next to his father, legendary rocker Ozzy, front and center.
