America’s Got Talent Season 8 Finale: Voters Surprise Again With An Unexpected Winner

September 19, 2013 08:18 AM by Stephanie Gustafson

In the days leading up to the finale, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern insisted that a singer was destined to win America’s Got Talent season 8. But as much as we love Cami Bradley, Jimmy Rose and the opera singers of Forte, we’re glad to say that the two cynical judges were proven wrong — this year’s winner is most definitely not a singer.

And the prize for this year’s best act goes to….Kenichi Ebina! We could not be more thrilled — the robotic dancer proved his crazy skills all season long, impressing us again and again with his unique moves. The judges didn’t think voters were about to skip the three musical acts and select a dancer, but oh, how wrong they were. Not only did Kenichi Ebina manage to snag first place, he was followed closely by the hilarious Taylor Williamson.

As has been the case all season, the judges were quick to praise Kenichi. Heidi Klum later tweeted, “Congratulations @KenichiEbina. You deserve it!!” Mel B retweeted Heidi’s congratulatory post, adding a message that, while simple, still managed to say it all: “ditto.”

Although his Twitter page was relatively quiet in the aftermath of America’s Got Talent, Howard Stern had definitely made his opinion on Kenichi’s act clear prior to the finale. He told the AGT All Access show, “I really do think Kenichi really deserves to win. I think the guy is an incredible talent..he was great all season.”

Do you agree with Howard Stern? Did Kenichi Ebina deserve to win, or was his robotic dance overrated? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below!

I would like to disagree very strongly about Kenichi Ebina should have won the contest. Wrong answer.

His routine was very very repetitive and very boring always the same maybe just a small addition of people here and there. That is not talent in my book. NO HE DOES NOT DESERVE THE WIN!!!

Thank you Lord that Taylor Williamson didn’t win. He was very obnoxious, irritating and that voice, ouch painful to the ears. Just about as bas as fingernails scraping down a chalk board. Couldn’t even stand to look at him.

Now the real talent like Jimmy Rose, Forte, Cami Bradley, Marty Brown, Chicago Boys, Branden James, D’Angelo and Amanda these are only a few that had REAL talent. Shame that none of these could have won.

Of course the problem is that Howie Mandel and Howard Stern influenced the vote for Kenichi and Williamson. They couldn’t shut up about their, in my opinion, non-existent talent.

Just critique so they can improve and then shut up. Going on and on and saying they have a million dollar act, when they don’t is influencing the votes.

By the way, is Kenichi even an American? Did he come from Japan to be on AMERICA’S Got Talent?

WE SO ENJOY WATCHING AGT–NICK IS THE BEST!!!
WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF KENICHI AND HIS FAMILY LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES?? DO THEY PAY TAXES, SUPPORT A COMMUNITY, SEND THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL HERE?? I REALLY HOPE SO AS IT WOULD BE A REAL INJUSTICE TO THE OTHER CONTESTANTS IF HE TOOK HIS MILLION BACK TO JAPAN.
AT TIMES I FELT SO BAD FOR THE OTHER CONTESTANTS WHEN HOWARD AND HOWIE WENT ON AND ON HOW ONE ACT SHOULD WIN OVER ANOTHER.

Shocking results….every kid on “So You Think You Can Dance” is better/more talented than Kenichi. Really, what a way to loose audience for what could be a very good search for good talent in America.
