It’s really happening — Carrie Underwood is about to play Maria von Trapp in a live broadcast version of The Sound of Music! The American Idol alum took a little time at last night’s Emmy Awards to chat with Amy Poehler about the joys and difficulties of this upcoming project.
Carrie Underwood is super excited about her upcoming move to New York. Once she moves in to the Big Apple, she’ll be busy preparing for a television rendition of The Sound of Music, for which she is slated to play the lovely Maria von Trapp. While this project is certainly very exciting, it also presents its fair share of pressure — and Carrie’s definitely getting nervous. Yesterday, she told Amy Poehler, “It’s three hours of live TV. I got to memorize lines…I’ve never had to memorize lines before. I’ve never had to really buckle down.”
Memorizing lines is difficult in and of itself, but that’s not the only thing worrying Carrie. She also knows that she has huge shoes to fill, seeing as everyone will be comparing her performance to that of Julie Andrews. She admitted to having watched the famous movie version in the past and then proceeded to warn prospective viewers of the following: “This is the musical version, so it’s different.”
Do you think Carrie Underwood has what it takes to successfully play Maria von Trapp in the television musical version of The Sound of Music? We know you have an opinion and we want to hear it, so feel free to leave your opinion in the comments section below!
