Dancing with the Stars has claimed its first victim of the season, and former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson was the one to get the boot stiletto. For the first time in Johnson’s career, this is a number one he didn’t want, but the judges and viewing audience have spoken. Johnson may have the moves on the football field, but he doesn’t have what it takes on the dance floor.
This week’s theme was Latin, and Johnson and his pro partner Sharna Burgess performed a samba that, while energetic, failed to completely win over the judges. After the dance, Bruno Toniolo reminded Johnson to count music, while Len Goodman noted that he made a valiant effort this time around. Carrie Ann Inaba said he looked more comfortable on the dance floor compared to the previous week, but still had some work to do. When the judges’ scores were totaled, Johnson received an 18, giving him a two-week total of 35 and putting him just above last place finisher Bill Nye.
So what sealed Johnson’s Dancing fate? It might have been his out of sync timing with the music, or maybe it’s his bulky size that’s better suited for football instead of dancing. Perhaps it was because he nearly dropped poor Sharna while dipping her at the end of the dance. Whatever it was, Johnson is headed home after just two weeks of competition.
In spite of his early exit from Dancing with the Stars, Keyshawn Johnson says he would do it all over again if he could. He credits his partner for her skillful choreography and has a newfound respect for ballroom dancing. After the elimination, he told reporters, “I’ve come to realize I had an amazing time.” And really, you can’t ask for much more than that.
Were you shocked that Keyshawn went home? Comment below and let us know.
