The Voice: Blake Shelton Dishes On Working With Cher

September 25, 2013 03:52 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

Blake Shelton knows what it takes to win on The Voice, as he’s proven three times thus far. But can he maintain this winning formula for season five? Perhaps, for this time, the secret ingredient involves new mentor Cher!

Critics may have begun to refer to it as “The Blake Shelton” show, but the frequently victorious judge and coach insists that The Voice remains as competitive as ever. Despite his three wins, Blake’s still doing his darndest to capture another victory. As he explained on Today, “[My winning streak] may be boring to you, but it’s very exciting to me.”

Helping Blake along on this journey is the lovely Cher. With several decades of experience, this singer-actress is sure to provide contestants plenty of valuable insight. And that’s not the only reason Blake appreciates her assistance! He says her personality is just what his team will need as they take on their talented competitors. “I love her. Looking back on all the movies and things she’s been in — she’s just playing herself. She doesn’t take herself that seriously, but she doesn’t take any crap off of anybody either. You know what I mean? She actually reminds me of my wife (Miranda Lambert) a lot, I mean, as far as she’s a very strong woman.”

Blake’s admiration for Cher is nothing new — in fact, he was introduced to the singer’s work by his late father! Speaking of this new partnership, Blake told Yahoo, ““I wish he could have seen tonight’s episode, because I would’ve been texting him saying, ‘Hey, I met Cher! I took a picture with Cher!’”
