Melissa Gorga Insists Her Book Does Not Promote Rape

September 27, 2013 03:43 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

We can’t say we’re surprised to learn that Melissa Gorga is once again in hot water…but we were taken aback by the nature of her latest scandal. The  Real Housewives of New Jersey star is battling claims suggesting that her new book promotes marital rape.

Jezebel is known for releasing scathing book reviews, which is why, really, their recent assessment of Melissa Gorga’s book should not be such big news. In the controversial review, Tracie Morissey slams Melissa for her alleged support of marital rape. To prove her point, the Jezebel contributor highlights a passage in which male readers are advised, “If your wife says “no,” turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated.”

Tracie Morissey takes great offense to this advice, explaining, “That is rape and it is insane that it got past the publisher.” The writer also finds several additional passages problematic, particularly those in which Melissa advocates that readers do their best to conform to traditional gender roles.

In this type of situation, the knee-jerk reaction of the criticized party is to claim that the highlighted passage was taken out of context. Lo and behold, that’s exactly Melissa’s response! In a seemingly failed effort at damage control, the reality star took to Twitter to hit back at the naysayers. “I’m so disgusted that a reporter has taken things completely out of context simply for shock value. If you’ve read my book, you know that I am promoting mutual love, respect, honesty, and loyalty.” Of course, Melissa never actually denied the rape claims, nor did she set the record straight regarding accusations of gender stereotyping.

We’re inclined to believe this negative review will actually work in Melissa Gorga’s favor. When you’re a reality star, any attention is good attention! What do you think? Sound off in the comments section below!

The whole problem starts with “penned by Melissa and her husband Joe….” These Bimbos are offensive. Why are they given an opportunity to share their ignorance? I’ll never understand!!!! This is what happens when someone who doesn’t have 2 brain cells to rub together, “writes” a book! If rape is your thing (and yes, what you describe is rape), that’s your choice, but it is very dangerous to make generalizations. Not “Every girl” is into the same things. Please don’t speak for me, thanks. What an offensive statement in her book. Now she says it was taken the wrong way? There is no other way to take it other than what she said….the man should rip the women’s clothes off and take it. All women want their hair pulled? Really? Is she some kind of expert now? I thought she was going to blame this mess on Teresa LMAO
