Dancing With The Stars Bids Farewell To Another Fan Favorite This Week

October 08, 2013 07:28 AM by Lisa Princ

Last week on Dancing With The Stars, fans were disappointed to see one their favorites, Bill Nye, head home after an injury that left him with less than impressive dance moves. Unfortunately, as the competition continues to get more difficult, some celebrities don’t improve as much as others. And one of those celebrities, who was also a big fan favorite, bid farewell to the show last night.

Each week on Dancing With The Stars, as one couple gets eliminated, the remaining couples must up the ante to remain in the competition. That, however, was not the case this week for Valerie Harper, a fan favorite who is battling terminal brain cancer. After following up last week’s 16 point performance with an 18 pointer this week, Harper was sent packing last night.

Despite being eliminated, Harper was thrilled that she got the opportunity to dance, and get her message out there. “It has been absolutely wonderful…completely unique, like nothing else in the world that you would ever do. It was an opportunity for me to carry a message to folks, not just with cancer, whatever they have, whatever challenge,” Valerie said after learning she was heading home.

Harper’s story has been inspiring to many this season, and even guest judge, Julianne Hough couldn’t contain her tears watching Harper perform. “I don’t think that I’ve had the chance to tell you how courageous I think that you are,” Hough, who was filling in for Len Goodman, told Valerie last night.

And in case anyone is wondering if Julianne was able to judge her brother’s performance fairly, she did. Hough actually joked that she hoped Derek would have messed up so she wouldn’t be able to like his performance. Hough and his partner Amber Riley delivered a near perfect tango, earning them every bit of their 27 point score.
