Gordon Ramsay Prepares For Kona Ironman

October 08, 2013 03:30 PM by Stephanie Gustafson

Yes, he loves his food, but that doesn’t mean Gordon Ramsay is opposed to a healthy lifestyle. Taking a break from the usual Masterchef and Kitchen Nightmares routine, Chef Ramsay is headed to Hawaii for the Kona Ironman!

Get ready to be wowed by Gordon Ramsay once again. This time, the celebrity chef won’t be impressing you with his hilarious insults or amazing food — it’ll be his performance in the world’s most difficult triathlon. At this very moment, Chef Ramsay is in Hawaii, checking out the local cuisine and preparing for the big race. He’s been sharing photos and words of wisdom all week, recently tweeting the following reminder: “4 days to go ’til #IMKona!”

In a recent interview, the reality chef admitted to being a bit nervous about participating in such a distinguished triathlon. But given his extensive experience in endurance sports (which includes dozens of marathons and ultra-marathons) we’re sure he’ll do just fine. And once he’s finished, Chef Ramsay is planning on rewarding himself…and not just with a tasty meal, although we’re sure he’ll be anxious to replace the protein bars with fancy cuisine. Believe it or not, the reality star plans to celebrate his victory by getting inked! He explained, “It’s the only time I am going to have a tattoo in my life…When I finish Kona and get a little Ironman tattoo on the corner of my ankle.”

The 2013 Kona Ironman takes place this coming Sunday. You can catch live updates on the official Ironman site or through NBC’s Universal Sports Network. Will you tune in to see Gordon Ramsay compete? Feel free to share your plans in the comments section below!

Athletes have to qualify to race in Kona in the World Champs, why do celebs get free passes? It disrespects the race and the other athletes… If he wanted to race Kona he should have gone to another IM race and qualified like everyone else…

Ant – Not all athletes have to qualify. There are 200 lottery spots and additional spots reserved for sponsors and those who win a bid on eBay. The eBay spots get up to $30K plus, so many times celebrities get in that way. Hines Ward is participating on a sponsor exempted spot, but I’m not sure which route Gordon took.

However you get in, you must complete a 70.3 (half iron) or 140.6 (full iron) event during the year you are participating.
