On October 8, the 15th season of NBC’s popular series, The Biggest Loser premieres with a special theme of “second chances.” Fifteen inspiring contestant, including Ruben Studdard–the show’s first celebrity player–will begin a journey that could change their lives forever.

During her time in New Jersey, Michaels explained why she decided to return to the show, “It’s really a challenging job but the part of it that always makes it worth it or why I tend to go back for more is the contestants, she explained, “that’s what I’m hoping the audience always takes away is watching them triumph over adversity, overcome their obstacles; and bear their heart and soul.”

She says the most gratifying part of her job is to see people make total transformations. However, Michaels explains there’s more to just getting contestants physically fit, “Their state of mind emotionally, psychologically, their confidence level and so on is really rewarding,” she explains, “that remains the same on the show no matter what shenanigans etc play out on or off camera.”

For the first time in the show’s history, the trainers got to sit-in on casting sessions and had a hand in the selection process. Another new addition is the “trainer save” which allowing each trainer the opportunity to save one eliminated contestant from going home. According to Michaels the show is always keeps viewers guessing since it’s a reality competition. “It is a game show so there are always going to be things that are hard to watch or irritating or disappointing but at its core, the show remains to be one about people overcoming adversity.”
