On this week’s episode of 19 Kids and Counting, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar celebrated an impressive 29 years of marriage. With 29 years and nearly as many kids, the road hasn’t always been easy…but Michelle says that she wouldn’t trade her current life with Jim Bob for the world! What are the reality mom’s best tips for a successful marriage?
Michelle Duggar knows a thing or two about marriage. After all, she’s been hitched to Jim Bob for nearly three decades, during which time she’s managed to pop out 19 kids. In a recent interview with Celebrity Baby Scoop, Michelle confessed that, although occasionally difficult, marriage does not need to be nearly as challenging as some people make it. The key to a relatively drama-free relationship? Communication.
Okay, it’s the cliche answer to the marriage question, but Michelle does make a good point. She adds, “when you live with someone day in and day out, there’s always going to be those misunderstandings that come up. Communication is vital, and it’s important to take time every day to talk.”
Also essential for a happy marriage? According to Michelle, making time for prayer and a willingness to forgive are biggies. She adds that the occasional alone time can be helpful, although, obviously, with 19 kids, one can hardly expect a much of a solitary existence. Fortunately, this isn’t too much of a priority for the reality mom, who explains, “ I am not the kind of person that needs to have alone time…too much of that will really drive me nuts.” That being said, when she is alone, Michelle finds it helpful to recharge by reading the Bible and working out on the elliptical machine.
