So much for Miss Independent! Kelly Clarkson — the very first American Idol winner — is one step closer to taking a walk down the aisle. The pop/country star has applied for a marriage license in her adopted home state of Tennessee. The happy couple appeared in person and applied under their given names — Kelly Brianne Clarkson and Narvel Brandon Blackstock. The license is good for 30 days, so just when is she planning on making it official?
Kelly Clarkson did everything but shout it from rooftops when she got engaged to her manager’s son — who’s stepmom just happens to be country queen Reba McEntire — when he popped the question in December 2012. She immediately tweeted, “I’M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever :)”, which I can only imagine her screaming! Which I would have done as well! The engagement was sealed with a massive yellow diamond ring that would delight any girl!
Wedding planning did not seem to excite Miss Clarkson the way that it should have. For months she was outspoken about her plans for a huge wedding, even posing for public engagement photos in wedding dresses by Monique Lhuillier and Marchesa. But alas, a huge wedding was not in the cards for Kelly.
“I’m so over it,” she told Ryan Seacrest this summer “It’s so overwhelming. We’re just doing a lot,” she explained. “Touring, and the wedding, and the Christmas album…so I’m over the wedding part.” Within days she tweeted her intimate wedding plans to her 8 million of followers, “We are eloping for one reason only,” she tweeted on Aug. 22. “We both want an intimate ceremony.”
No one knows when she will actually become Mrs. Blackstock, but the American Idol alum certainly has plans for after the wedding. “I want babies, like, right off the bat!” she said during an interview for Elvis Duran and the Morning Show on Oct. 9. “I’m totally gonna have a girl. My first child will be a girl — I know it in my soul.”
Good luck to Kelly and Brandon! Do you think they should of had the big, glamorous wedding instead of eloping? Tell us in the comments.
