Bill Rancic is no stranger to marathons, as the 42-year-old has participated in some in the past. But today, Rancic will be running in the ING NYC Marathon, in hopes of raising money for cancer patients. Read on to find out what the Giuliana & Bill star had to say about his big run!
Nothing hits closer to home for Bill Rancic than breast cancer, since his wife Giuliana survived it and had a double mastectomy. So today, as Bill takes on the ING NYC Marathon, he will running for a special cause, hoping to help raise money for breast and ovarian cancer patients. Rancic will begin the race dead last, and for each person he passes, Timex is donating $1 to Fab-U-Wish, a cancer charity started by his wife, Giuliana Rancic, that grants wishes to women battling with breast and/or ovarian cancer.
“It was an opportunity to raise money for a good charity, something that’s near and dear to our heart,” Bill Rancic told CBS News as to why he signed up. Despite his prior marathon experience, this time may prove to be tougher for Rancic, who ran his last 26 mile marathon back when he was only 30 years old, but Bill is determined to prove to himself that he can do it. “I think every guy that hits his 40s has a little bit of a wake-up call and wants to just keep things real, as they say, and just to push yourself,” he explained.
Rancic added that he is hoping to pass at least 25,000 people, which would give his charity a cool $25,000.00! We can’t wait to see how he does!
