Was the non-stop drama too much for Lydia McLaughlin? Quite possibly, as The Real Housewives of Orange County star has decided to leave the series after just one season. After joining the cast for season eight, Lydia took a decidedly un-Housewife approach to being on the show – i.e., she stayed out of the drama, she didn’t get into any major catfights or feuds with the other women and she maintained a pretty positive vibe throughout the season. Hmmm, put like that, it kind of sounds like she wasn’t Housewife material after all, so perhaps she’s made the right decision.
During her stint on The Real Housewives of Orange County, Lydia kept most of her focus on her magazine, Beverly Hills Lifestyle. In fact, in an interview with Us Weekly, the mom of two admitted, “I never wanted to make a career out of being a housewife. That’s never really been a dream of mine. I want to build my brand outside of the Housewives.” Sounds like she’ll get the chance now, since the Bravo cameras will no longer be rolling and she won’t have to contend with the dynamics of the other women and their families.
However, just because she’s out of the Housewives franchise, it doesn’t mean she wants to be out of the spotlight altogether. In fact, the 32-year old revealed her aspirations to star in her very own reality show, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into her magazine’s publication. “I definitely have plans to continue to sparkle fairy dust and be a light! I want to develop our own reality show about our magazine and all the glitz and glamour involved with publishing it,” she confessed to Us. Hello, Bravo? You reading this? It’s not a bad idea, though maybe not quite as entertaining as Lisa Vanderpump’s insanely melodramatic spin-off, Vanderpump Rules.
Lydia McLaughlin’s departure, along with Alexis Bellino and Gretchen Rossi getting the axe, leaves just three Housewives set for season nine – Vicki Gunvalson, Tamra Barney and Heather Dubrow. No word on casting additions or changes yet, so stay tuned.
So what do you think about Lydia’s choice to leave RHOC? Was it the right one or is she throwing away a good opportunity? Tell us in the comments!
