Kanye West Pleads Not Guilty To Criminal Battery Charges

November 07, 2013 06:00 PM by Suzy Kerr

Remember back in July when Kanye West got busted for assaulting a photographer who dared to speak to him? Think hard, I know it’s diffcult to recall, what with all the proposing and Confederate flag-wearing that’s been going on lately, but this was a pretty serious incident that resulted in criminal battery and attempted grand theft charges for the rapper. Now the story is making headlines again, this time because the fiancé of Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian has entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges.

Here’s a refresher of everything that went down over the summer and led to the charges: Yeezy was leaving LAX on July 19 when paparazzo Daniel Ramos attempted to converse with the rapper, even after Kanye had previously issued explicit instructions to the paps NOT to speak to him. (I imagine it went something like this. “Peasants with cameras! If thou darest to speakest to me-est, I will promptly beat the ever loving sh*t out of you-est!”.) Hey, you can’t say they weren’t warned.

Anyway, the pap alleges that after he broke ‘Ye’s cardinal rule, the rapper went thermonuclear on him, attacking him and trying to steal his expensive camera….thus, the criminal battery and attempted grand theft charges. After the charges were filed, Kanye enlisted the services of Blair Berk, a criminal defense attorney who also specializes in working with celebs. Meanwhile, Daniel Ramos has got Gloria Allred on his side, and if you haven’t heard that name before, you need to start reading the newspaper and tabloids more.

A judge who reviewed the case in early October ordered Kanye and Daniel to stay 10 yards away from each other (hardcore, huh?), and today marked the occasion where Kim Kardashian’s man was able to enter his plea. Attorney Blair Berk showed up in court on Yeezy’s behalf to put in his not guilty plea, which surprised no one anywhere. Please. Like ‘Ye would ever admit guilt to anything.

No word on a trial date yet, but we’ll keep you posted.

So what do you think about the newest development in Kanye West’s criminal battery case? Do you think he’ll be convicted and actually go to jail? If he does, will the Keeping Up With the Kardashians cameras be allowed to film in the visitor’s room? Because that would be awesome. Tell us what you think in the comments!
