The Braxtons are a musical bunch, but it’s not all genetic predisposition. Turns out, that sisterly talent was initially developed within the confines of the family church. Tamar Braxton explains that, long before her tenure on Braxton Family Values, she spent all her time at church — and that this focus on Christianity had a huge impact on her music career.
Tamar Braxton and her sisters first discovered their collective love of music in church, where they were constantly surrounded by the talent and dedication of local choirs. But as Tamar Braxton tells Flaunt Magazine, participation in various church functions did more than inspire a passion for music — it made it possible for her to persevere in the midst of great challenges. “I had to be really strong in my faith and I know if it wasn’t for God, I would not be here.”
Although she enjoyed growing up surrounded by a very loving congregation, Tamar says she didn’t really appreciate her church-based childhood until she was bombarded by the inherent stress of adulthood. ”Both of my parents at one time were pastors of their own churches and I learned a lot from that…But not until I was an adult did I understand it and know for myself.”
Tamar continues to keep her faith close as she works hard to promote Winter Loversland, her new Christmas album. The holiday collection has played prominently in her latest Twitter updates, with Tamar encouraging fans to attach the hastags #WintersLoverland and #TamartianChristmas to all their Braxton-themed tweets.
