Can you believe it’s been 10 years of wedded bliss for Ryan and Trista Sutter, one of the only couples to survive the curse of The Bachelor /Bachelorette franchise? It’s true. It was a whole decade ago that we all watched hottie firefighter Ryan propose to former Miami Heat cheerleader Trista, and then walk down the aisle in a nationally televised attempt to prove that true love CAN be found on a reality television show.
Nice try ABC, but I still call BS on that. Looking back on all the relationships spawned from the reality show, stats show that only 16 percent of the Bachelor/ette couples have made it, leading many folks to believe that the series is cursed. Personally, I’m not convinced it’s a curse that dooms the budding relationships, but rather the fact that 25 guys or gals (all smoking hot) are pitted against one another to win the ultimate prize – the Bachelor or Bachelorette. I mean, that’s what it’s really about, right? Winning? That and the free vacations, but hey, whatever. Props to Ryan and Trista, though, for being one of the rare few who have shown that their love IS true – 10 years is a long time to spend with someone, even for people who meet the old-fashioned way (i.e., in a half-drunken state at the bar).
To celebrate their love (and just in time for Trista’s new book to come out!), the two have decided to renew their vows with ABC cameras rolling. That’s right, we’re all invited to the intimate ceremony where Ryan and Trista reaffirm their love for another and show the world that true love IS real and it CAN happen, no matter how many hot tub parties or fantasy suites are involved.
The ceremony is set to air on January 19 in a primetime special. In the meantime, you can also check out Trista’s new book, Happily Ever After, which offers insider tips on marriage, parenting and more, and is in stores now.
So, will you be tuning into Ryan and Trista’s vow renewal in January? It is history in the making, after all, being the only Bachelorette to make it past one year of marriage. Tell us in the comments!
