He may be People’s Sexiest Man Alive, but that doesn’t necessarily make Adam Levine the authority on all things pop culture. Case in point: during last night’s episode of The Voice, Adam admitted to knowing absolutely nothing about a very popular One Direction song.
Adam Levine is quite the expert on pop music (as he should be, given his position as the lead singer of Maroon 5), but he’s not exactly knowledgeable when it comes to One Direction trivia. Last night, when Matthew Schuler took on a huge risk by singing the boy band’s B-Side Story Of My Life, Adam admitted that he’d never heard the song before — and had it not been pointed out to him, he’d have had no idea that it was a One Direction hit!
That’s not to say the entire judging panel on The Voice is clueless about One Direction. Blake Shelton certainly knew what he was talking about when he exclaimed, “One Direction! Oh em gee!” Following Blake’s outburst, Adam acknowledged, “Blake is the authority on all things One Direction.” Snarky Christina Aguilera added, “He didn’t know Nirvana, but he knew One Direction.”
Adam Levine may not have understood the hype surrounding One Direction’s big hit, but he could appreciate Matthew’s excellent rendition of Story Of My Life. And Matthew’s performance was similarly applauded by the other judges. Of course, the contestant has a tough road ahead, what with having to duke it out against the likes of Tessanne Chin and James Wolpert. But we think he’s more than capable!
Did you miss out on Matthew Schuler’s One Direction performance? We’ve included the video below, so feel free to check it out — and tell us what you think when you’re done!
