Did you know that Kanye West is more than just a groundbreaking musician and misunderstood prodigy? He’s also been compared to some of the world’s top designers (according to him), and now a major sportswear brand is cashing in on Ye’s artistic genius (again, his words). Since his deal with Nike has been severed, word on the street is that the baby daddy to Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian has signed a contract with Adidas to begin collaborating on a line of Yeezy-inspired street wear.
Last week, Kanye let it slip during a radio interview that he had formed a partnership with athletic heavyweight Adidas, saying, “I took the Adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.” It may not sound like a bid deal, but it was a definite dig at Nike, who ‘Ye had been working with previously.Apparently, things went sour when, according to the rapper, he wasn’t getting enough of the royalties from his high top sales. He also accused the company of extortion at his Miami concert last weekend, going off on ANOTHER long-winded rant about red Yeezies and Nike’s allegedly shady business practices.
He even had a special message for the CEO of Nike, which must be shared. He says, “I will still accept an investment in DONDA. I’ve got some more ideas that don’t involve shoes [so] if you guys are investing in the arts … I am standing up and I’m telling you. I. Am. Warhol. I am the number one most impactful artist of our generation, in the flesh. I am Shakespeare, Walt Disney. Nike. Google. Now who’s gonna be the Medici Familiy and stand up and let me create more?”
FREAKING EPIC, right? Just when I think Kanye West can’t say anything more ridiculous than “I’m the greatest rock star on the planet,” or “I’m like a vessel, and God has chosen me to be the voice and the connector,” he delivers a message like that. I love it.
Anyway, hopefully Kanye can forgive and forget all the mess with Nike now that the deal with Adidas is official. Besides, he’s earning a reported $10 million plus royalties, so he better just shut it and move on. He needs to be thinking of totally new, unheard of designs for the high tops of 2014 anyway. He’s got an image as an artistic genius to uphold, after all.
So what do you think about the latest news on Kanye West? I feel like if he would do more than make cameo appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, we might get to know him a little better, and these crazy instances of word vomit would make more sense.(<–haha, who am I kidding?)
