Remember earlier in the week when we reported that Kanye West had hired a relative of Andy Warhol to paint a portrait of Kim Kardashian in Warhol’s famous style? Well, now it seems that the rapper was duped by an imposter, and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star will NOT be getting the Warhol treatment. Too bad, because this world REALLY needed more pictures of Kim Kardashian, right?
As reported previously by multiple tabloids and news outlets, an artist by the name of Monica Warhol was supposedly commissioned by Kanye West to screen paint a series of Kim pics in the iconic Warhol style. All of this sounds perfectly reasonable, considering that Kanye has gushed over and over (and over and over) again about his fiancé’s fierce beauty, even calling her “most beautiful woman of all time…of human existence!”
With sentiments like that, it seems only natural that Kanye would have a painting or three (hundred) commissioned of Kim, but new reports are surfacing that say otherwise. According to TMZ, sources close to Kim and Kanye say they’ve never even heard of Monica Warhol, let alone hired her for a painting. In fact, they think she might be a scam artist, just looking to get her 15 minutes of fame. If that’s the case, I would say she has succeeded.
For her part, Monica says that she’s the real deal. She claims she is actually a cousin of Andy Warhol’s, and she does actually sell paintings in the Warhol style. When TMZ contacted her, she provided a theory on why Kimye suddenly decided to back out on the deal. She thinks the painting was supposed to be a surprise for the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star (a wedding present, perhaps?), but once word got out, the surprise was ruined and now Kanye doesn’t want to pay for the artwork. However, since the painting is already finished – or at least partially finished – she plans on selling it to the highest bidder.
Soooo….anyone in the market for a Kim Kardashian painting? Cue the crickets.
What do you think about all this? Did Kanye and Kim back on a legit deal, or did they nearly get scammed? Sound off in the comments!
